When should I first bring my child to the orthodontist?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children have their first orthodontic consultation no later than age 7. At OPD Smiles, we provide a free early evaluation to give your child the best opportunity for a healthy, beautiful smile.
Early intervention treatment
Not all children will need orthodontic treatment when they are younger, but some could greatly benefit from early intervention. Our team can use functional appliances or Invisalign® First aligners to gently guide the growth of your child’s smile.
Early intervention treatment makes room for your child’s current and incoming teeth, correct jaw abnormalities, and can help save time and money on later treatment in your child’s teenage years.

Orthodontics for teens
The teens are the perfect time to shape your smile. By age 12, most if not all permanent teeth have erupted and bite issues can easily be detected. At OPD Smiles, we have a number of teen treatment options including:
- Metal braces: Metal braces are the original orthodontic option, and now they are smaller, more comfortable, and more efficient than ever.
- Clear/ceramic braces: Our teens love clear braces because the discreet ceramic makes their treatment less noticeable when they smile.
- Invisalign® clear aligners: Invisalign® for teens is almost exactly like Invisalign® for adults – with a few key differences. The discreet clear aligners come with blue dot indicators to help your teen wear them for the recommended 22 hours a day.Beyond that, your teen can take their aligners out for meals, brushing and flossing, and important events as needed! And the aligners won’t even get in the way of sports or musical instrument practice. In addition, Invisalign® for teens comes with a few extra aligners in case they get lost or damaged – so you can rest assured that your teen’s treatment can stay on track.
